What Families Say

~May, 2008

I just want to say thank you for all the great work you do. My twin girls are both enrolled in home based program and they are flourishing. They have progressed so much in such a short period of time. It is amazing to watch the magic that you work. I can`t even begin to express the gratitude me and my family feel for all the hard work you are doing to help our girls. You do the work of angels. I have no doubt in my mind that The Behavior Institute is absolutly the best provider.

Our son Tristan has been involved in both the home program and in the prep class at the Children’s College.  Tristan has gone from having severe meltdowns to being able to express himself with minimal temper tantrums.  He has grown academically, socially and emotionally.  He seems more at ease with life in general now.  Dr. Walton-Allen and her unbelievably trained staff have had a profound effect and are incredibly in tine with the needs of the child and the families.  They are always extremely positive when discussing Tristan and our concerns.  We have a better understanding of Tristan and with the help of BI we are continuing to learn how to be better parents to him.  They have also invited our other son to visit BI with Tristan so he can learn to play with him.  We are thrilled at the effect that has had on both boys.

Overall, our entire family is happier.  We can go out to eat, take him out socially without difficulty and we are all closer.  Tristan will be continuing part time with BI in our home, but will be attending JK in a few weeks

~Our son Eric has been attending Children's College for 21/2 years.   We had him in a home program with two other companies.   Once we put him into the centre based program at Children's College, we saw more progress in 2 months than we saw in 21/2 years in the home program with other companies.

Dr. Walton-Allen really knows and loves everyone of the children in her school.   She also works well and cares for the parents of every child.   The staff here have always been very professional and caring.   This school has been so good for our son that we have been driving him for 21/2 years from Bowmanville.   Enrolling Eric at the Behaviour Institute, Children's College was the best decision we have ever made.

~We've tried several ABA providers and can honestly say that the BI is by far the best. We have no doubt in our minds that our son would not be where he is today if not for the amazing school.

~The Directors and staff of Children's College have given our son Scott the highest quality of one on one ABA programming available anywhere. Children's College is a school where excellence in programming and loving care are their #1 priority and it shows everyday.

~Our daughter Tennyson has been attending Behavior Institute since July 2004. We are very pleased with her progress in only 7 short months. Behavior Institute delivers quality therapy in a professional atmosphere. Equally important, our daughter has a big smile on her face when we drop her and when we pick her up.

~My name is Tanya Thibeault and I have a 7 year old daughter who has autism.   My daughter, Uma, has been attending Behaviour Institute, Children's College for just over a year now.   Prior to her enrollment here, I tried every therapy regimen available including, IBI, ABA, Music Therapy, Ministry Funded Programs and Sound Therapy.   In addition, I tried several private schools and private therapy and I personally enrolled in every training program I could.   I can tell you first hand that in those four years; all of the therapies combined did not achieve the results that B.I has achieved in one short year.

Upon Uma's enrollment at B.I., I notice results immediately and they are huge.   Some examples are that I was terribly unsuccessful at “potty training” Uma and tried for at least a year and a half.   Within a few weeks of using B.I.'s method, Uma was completely “potty trained”.   She learned how to control her emotions, how to communicate, spell, read, write, add, subtract, interact with her peers, use appropriate play, and how to behave appropriately in social situations.   I remember my little girl prior to B.I and she was very confused, frustrated and angry as she was unable to express her needs. She screamed constantly and banged her head sometimes causing serious injuries.    It was as if her brilliant mind was trapped inside her body and she did not understand the world that surrounded her.   That is no longer the situation. Today she is very happy, she understands and she is in control of her emotions. The screaming is minimal and the head banging has almost completely stopped.   I no longer spend my days and nights hoping that she will speak; now I have to control her talking back to me!

As a single mom who has to work, I cannot express what a feeling it is to finally be able to leave my daughter at school and KNOW that she is safe, understood and learning each and every day. The staff and programming at B.I. is by far the best I have ever encountered and is truly world class. They have provided my family with tremendous support and have been successful at every program they have implemented with Uma. I no longer feel like I'm all alone fighting the impossible. They have saved my daughter and many other children like her.   In speaking to the other parents who have children at B.I., their children have experienced similar results. Thanks to B.I., my daughter has a real chance at leading a productive and happy life.

Miracles do exist, B.I. is one of them.

~We have received service from the Behavior Institute for almost 4 years.  We went through an extensive evaluation process before selecting BI to help our children, where we picked BI because of their credentials, program composition and the ability to accommodate the particular needs of our two autistic children.  We have never looked back since as these strengths continue to be demonstrated time and time again.  In addition, the dedication of the staff at BI and their personal attention and care has been a huge factor in the many successes our children have achieved.  The staff are often as excited as we are about our kid's accomplishments. Things we could not see when we started, but have since seen in many ways include: how BI staff are true advocates for our children well beyond the therapy environment, how they care about our kids, how they look at all aspects of our children's lives as well as considering not only the academic and short term goals, but life skills and the long term ones, how there is an open and regular line of communication through monthly meetings and communication books.  They have always actively listened to our ideas that we have had based on our needs at home and have incorporated these ideas into their programming.

As of January 2005, our son Nicholas has literally spent 1/2 of his life at BI,  but in reality most of what he has become has happened from his time at BI (he has received training at the BI center and at home).  Now he is a happy, fun loving 7 year old, that enjoys contact with others with the ability to communicate with us, at 3.5 when he started at BI, he was a violent, isolated, regressive boy.  He has made truly remarkable results!  Our only regret is we did not find BI sooner and get Nicholas in the program earlier.  Our daughter who is 5 and has been receiving therapy there too (for 1 1/3 years) has made tremendous progress in her behavior and academics

~My family and I believe the performance of the entire team at BI has been exemplary. What we discovered early in the process, which is a great attribute of any staff in any field, was a focus on determining challenging outcomes for my son Andrew and then holding themselves accountable to achieving those outcomes. Andrew has grown immensely over the last three years and my family and Andrew have been privileged to be working with the staff at BI.

We thank the staff at BI for making Andrew's life and our lives much more enriching

~When our son Eddie started out with you at two and a quarter years of age, he was non-verbal and not understanding much of anything.   He never said "mama" or "papa" and he showed little affection or recognition of anything.   During the course of the period from 2001 to 2004, he made tremendous strides.   I remember him not being able to do the gestures to follow the song “Head and shoulders knees and toes' and learning how to do this with your facilitators.   Also he learned numerous skills through repeated trials over the course of time, such as how to put buttons and zip a zipper, how to use scissors, how to identify sounds, how to hold a pencil and draw, etc.   Eventually he learned how to write letters and now he can read and write well and loves it.   His language came in initially when he was 3.5 years old and gradually improved over the next years.   He learned how to ask questions and how to have social skills.

Eddie now is functioning well with his peers in a regular school setting in Grade 1.   He participates in a soccer league, is learning how to swim in regular classes and is making friends.   We bumped into a parent with a child with a similar disability in the park this summer and seeing Eddie, it made them very hopeful for their own child

~ The Behaviour Institute has confirmedour belief that ABA is an amazing learning tool. Our son has achieved so much in the three years we have received service from BI both through the Home and School based programs. From a little Boy who had no language or self help skills to a boy who today can call my name and be independent in ways we never thought possible.Dr Walton-Allen is our son's guardian angel. Both her and her amazing staff have make a difference in his life beyond our expectation. For this we are grateful and feel blessed.
